Persien, 17.Jh. Farbe auf Papier, Ledereinband. Islamisch datiert 1078 auf Stempel (Jahr 1668 des gregorianischen Kalenders). Darunter Titel in kufischer Schrift. Teil des in Versform verfassten Shanameh, dem persischen "Buch der Könige". Mit drei im Text eingebetteten, mit feinem Strich gemalten Miniaturmalereien. 27,5x18,5 cm (Einband).

1014. Kopf des Buddhas
Gandhara, 2./3.Jh. Stucco. Überlebensgrosser Kopf eines Buddhas mit ruhigem Gesichtsausdruck. Seine Augen sind halb geschlossen, die vollen Lippen zu einem sanften Lächeln geformt. Die üppige Haartracht ist in weichen Locken zu einem Knoten am Oberkopf gebunden, der die Ushnisha darstellt, und wird von einem Stoffband gehalten, welches an die Tänien der griechischen Antike erinnert. Diese Skulptur veranschaulicht auf eindrückliche Weise den kulturellen Austausch und den daraus entstandenen Synkretismus zwischen dem griechischen Alexanderreich und den buddhistisch geprägten Regionen Afghanistans und Pakistans. H 40 cm.
